They are forced to disregard the words of YHWH and ignore His messianic prophecies so that they may join the pagan in serving the very same "god" of self. That's why the Lord God called them false gods. Remember first preachers of the gospel of Christ were jewish. The Lord God wants to be know, but mental ascent and religious striving will never allow a person to be right-standing with the One and only Holy God.
